Hello, my name is Joseph Day.  I have a private practice in Downtown Los Angeles and I also offer a couples’ intensive in Malibu.  I’ve recently relocated my practice from Redding, CA.  In 2012 I encountered Somatic Experiencing for the first time as a client at a couples intensive of my own and I have never been the same.

Like so many others, Somatic Experiencing was the missing piece for me.  I was primed with loads of suffering and a newly inspired pursuit of myself at all costs.  My initial exposure resulted in a rapid thawing from a developmental freeze I had been in my whole life, and I felt like I was newly born.  There were many moments of shifting and thawing over about five days.  Having spent my whole life under spiritual prescriptions and interpretations of healing, I was truly shocked that the nervous system had such accessible, coherent, and grounded processes.  I spent the next five months wide open and coregulating everyone I encountered.  Psychobiological principles became my most sacred and treasured guidelines for life.  I had a clear vision of my purpose in life and knew that I would help couples and individuals in the way I had been helped.  I wanted the world to see the gift I’d been given.  I began my formal training as an SEP in 2014.  In 2015 I began training in a Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy, which was another key component of my thawing experience.  I also have trained in Somatic Resilience and Regulation which is geared towards somatic renegotiation of preverbal wounding.

In my practice I enjoy working with all kinds of clients, but I particularly enjoy working with couples and small groups.  I call my practice Embody Connection and I love witnessing people learn how to connect deeper to those they care about.  My couples go through a three day intensive in Malibu and they leave with an operating manual for co-regulating in their relationship.  My personal rapid awakening experience was a rare phenomenon, much like Nancy in Waking the Tiger.  But my expereince gives me a sense of passion and possibility that my couples enjoy.  I like training partners how to play a significant role in each other’s more nuanced nervous system support.  For example, with couples who have syndromal presentations, I teach their partner basic skills and awarenesses.  This helps the couple feel more compassion for each other and empowerment towards more effective support.  I also work directly with the felt sense of sexual energy to overcome sexual dysfunction in relationship.  I truly love this work!

My personal list of gratitudes from my SE journey includes reworking seizure imprints, healing IBS, healing of chronic athletes foot, losing 50 pounds, unfreezing facial fixtures to become much more expressive, reworking abuse, accessing healthy aggression/boundary, greatly increased vibrancy in life, and gaining much more autonomy in relationships.  This is just in myself.  My clients make this list look quite small.  It kind of blows my mind to write that list.  Many of these outcomes weren’t even goals.  I engage in ongoing sessions for myself as a matter of humility in keeping myself growing.  It’s no wonder I am so passionate about this work.  I recently began assisting SE trainings and I’m really enjoying the connection with other SEP’s and students.  I’m excited to continue to grow, integrate, and collaborate with all of you in this great community.
